Marzipan is considered one of the most popular baked goods in the Netherlands. Christmas sweets are especially incomplete without it: candies, cookies, buns, and many other confections can be enjoyed with this enchanting aroma and flavor of almonds. Banquette, a layered roll with a marzipan filling, is also often baked during the winter holidays. Its recipe is quite simple, but the taste is unforgettable. Banquettes are baked as long rolls, similar to baguettes, or thin rolls are often formed into letters. If baked at home, these letters usually represent the initials of each family member.
