The combination of apples and salted caramel has never failed to impress. You don't need to bake this apple pie: use store-bought caramel, just make the caramel, and it's ready in just 20 minutes. Top the pie with a thick, creamy caramel and sprinkle with coarse salt flakes. It will acquire its own unique character and a ton of fans among your guests, who won't even notice it's store-bought. This topping can also be used on any apple pie you want to elevate to a new level.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 0.5 cups of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces,
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of coarse salt
  • 1 purchased closed apple pie
  • Salt flakes, for sprinkling

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place the sugar in a small nonstick skillet, drizzle with lemon juice and water, and cook over medium heat, stirring until dissolved. Then stop stirring and cook, swirling the pan occasionally, until the mixture turns amber, 4-5 minutes. Watch carefully, otherwise the caramel will burn quickly.
  2. Carefully pour in the heavy cream (it will splatter) and whisk. Stir in the butter until smooth. Remove the caramel from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and coarse salt. Transfer to a bowl and let cool for at least 30 minutes.

  3. Spoon the cooled caramel over the pie. Sprinkle with flaky salt before serving.
