Substitutes are considered based on 1 glass of replaced vegetable oil.

1. Unsweetened applesauce

Required quantity: 3/4 or 1 cup.

Sugar-free applesauce is low in fat compared to vegetable oils. It can be used even in cases where people cannot use the safest soybean oil due to allergies.

2. Mashed ripe bananas

Best used in fruit muffins and cakes. They'll taste amazing!

3. Plum puree

Required quantity: from 3/4 to 1 cup.

Using this ingredient will create a wonderful golden brown crust on baked goods. You can also reduce the amount of sugar called for in the recipe, as plum puree is very sweet. Since this puree tends to dry out baked goods somewhat, you'll need to add a little skim milk or water to the dough to maintain the desired texture.

The puree is best used to impart a pleasant aroma to baked goods. It's especially good added to spiced bread.

4. Apple or peach jam

Required quantity: 3/4 cup.

Using fruit preserves allows you to reduce the amount of sugar called for in a recipe. All fruit preserves are sweet and can be used to sweeten a variety of dishes.

The juice is good to use when making quick bread, as well as banana, cranberry or zucchini bread.

8. Heated mayonnaise

Required quantity: 1 glass.

When using mayonnaise, you won't notice any difference in taste.

Mayonnaise is good to use when baking and frying fish or meat, especially chicken, as well as vegetables.

9. Melted butter

Required quantity: 1 cup. Butter can be salted or unsalted.

Butter adds a wonderful flavor and aroma to dishes. If you use salted butter, remember that you can use less salt or no salt at all.

It is best to use butter for adding to dough for baking or frying foods.

10. Lard (rendered lard)

Required quantity: 1 glass
