Quantity: 1 cocktail

A vibrant tiki cocktail is a true feast for the eyes and soul. It will transport you to tropical islands without leaving home. Make the cocktail in a small watermelon by blending the flesh with an immersion blender and adding the spirit. The highlight of any tiki cocktail is its colorful garnish. Insert straws, umbrellas, mint sprigs, and any other garnishes you have on hand into the watermelon. You're guaranteed to have a great time!

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 small watermelon, wash well
  • Lemonade, as needed
  • 60 ml vodka or white rum (or as needed), optional
  • Lemon wedges for garnish
  • Sprigs of fresh mint for garnish
  • Special equipment: immersion blender and cocktail umbrella (or any other decorations)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Cut a small piece off the bottom of the watermelon to keep it stable and prevent it from rolling. Place the watermelon in a bowl to stabilize it and to catch the juices.
  2. Insert an immersion blender (don't turn it on yet), gently press it into the top of the watermelon, and twist to score the rind. Then twist and apply firm pressure to remove the top "plug." If the head of your immersion blender isn't sharp, you may need to use a knife.

  3. Insert an immersion blender into the pulp and blend until it begins to liquefy. This is the fun part. Be sure to blend the sides and be careful not to cut into the bottom. The watermelon will likely splatter, so wear an apron. Once most of the pulp has become liquid, add lemonade and a shot of vodka or rum, if desired.
  4. Garnish with lemon slices, mint sprigs and a cocktail umbrella or other garnish.
