Despite their name, these cookies were invented in America, and the reason they were called Russian is unknown. Perhaps it's because of their snowball shape? These cookies are baked with simple ingredients, forming snow-white balls coated in powdered sugar. All you need is butter, powdered sugar, flour, pecans, and vanilla. For a more festive flavor, stir in candied cherries. The finished balls are rolled twice in powdered sugar while still warm, ensuring the powder coats the cookies thoroughly. The result is a wonderfully melt-in-your-mouth cookie with a delicious combination of pecans and cherries.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Beat the butter with the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Sift the flour and salt into the butter mixture and mix well. Stir in the nuts and cherries and refrigerate the dough for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Roll the dough into 2.5 cm diameter balls and place them on an ungreased baking sheet (they won't spread during baking). Bake until set but not browned, about 10 minutes.
- While the balls are still warm but have set, roll them in powdered sugar and let them cool. Then roll them again in powdered sugar.
