Time: 5 minutes plus ice freezing time
Complexity: easily
Quantity: 1 cocktail

The Old Fashioned is perhaps the most popular whiskey cocktail. It's simple: whiskey, a couple dashes of Angostura, a dash of sugar, and ice. A traditional Old Fashioned is garnished with a cherry and an orange slice, but you can go a step further and freeze ice cubes with orange zest frozen in each cube specifically for this cocktail.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 0.5 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 drops of bitters, such as Angostura
  • 1 strip of orange zest
  • 60 ml of whiskey
  • 1 cherry in brandy, optional
  • Ice cubes with orange zest

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine sugar, Angostura and orange zest in the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass and mash.
  2. Pour in the whiskey and add the cherries, if using. Add a few orange ice cubes.

    Note

To make orange ice cubes, peel the orange zest in long strips and roll them into curls. Place one curl of zest in each ice cube tray, cover with distilled water, and freeze overnight.
