This cocktail enhances the rich flavor of amber ale with a good old-fashioned bourbon and Angostura. This recipe makes four servings. Mix the Old Fashioned base in a pitcher, pour into glasses, and top with beer. Serve over ice and garnish with orange zest and a maraschino cherry.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • Ice
  • 0.5 cups bourbon
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 0.5 tsp. bitters, such as Angostura
  • 2 bottles of 0.33 l amber ale
  • 4 strips orange zest (cut from the orange with a vegetable peeler)
  • 4 maraschino cherries (optional)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Fill a shaker with ice. Add bourbon, sugar, and bitters and shake well. Pour the drink into four glasses filled with ice and top with half a bottle of ale. Rub the rim of the glass with orange zest and drop it into the cocktail along with the maraschino cherry.
