Gin and Blackberry Float Cocktail

A recipe for a gin and blackberry float cocktail. The berries are simmered with sugar and strained through a fine sieve. The resulting juice is poured into a shaker and mixed with mint, gin, lemon juice, and ice.
The mixture is poured into glasses along with ginger ale. Ice cream is placed on top of the cocktail.

Cocktail float A bubbly ice cream drink is made with sparkling water and various other ingredients. The unique feature of this cocktail is that ice cream or whipped cream is placed on top, creating a floating effect.


Ingredients:

  • 470 ml blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh mint
  • 225 gr. gin
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 680 g of ginger ale
  • 500 ml vanilla ice cream or blueberry sorbet (fruit ice cream)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the blackberries, sugar, and 1 tablespoon of water. Mash the berries with a pestle and simmer for 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, squeezing out the juice with a rubber spatula. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes.

    Fill a cocktail shaker with 2 tablespoons blackberry juice, 2 tablespoons mint, 55g gin, 1 tablespoon lime juice, and a handful of ice. Shake vigorously for 5-6 minutes, until ice-cold. Strain into a tall glass. Top with ginger ale and stir briefly. Make 3 more drinks. Top each with a scoop of ice cream.
