Give your favorite gin and tonic a pleasant floral twist by adding hibiscus syrup to the cocktail. You can make the syrup ahead of time, and don't throw away the swollen hibiscus flowers: they can be used to garnish the drink in the glass. Serve the cocktail well chilled.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 0.5 cups dried hibiscus flowers
  • 0.5 cups of sugar
  • 3/4 cup gin
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (1-2 lemons)
  • 1.5 cups tonic

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine the hibiscus flowers, sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes. Pour the syrup into a small bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Strain the syrup into a measuring cup, reserving some of the flowers for garnishing cocktails. Combine gin, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup hibiscus syrup in a small pitcher. Add tonic water. Add more syrup to taste.

  3. Fill 4 glasses with ice. Pour the cocktail and garnish with hibiscus flowers.
