The Martini is an elegant cocktail made with gin and vermouth. Since its invention in America in the late 19th century, the proportions of the drinks have constantly changed, depending on both personal preference and the national situation. Try this recipe for a Martini, mixing it in a ratio that more closely resembles Winston Churchill's favorite: "I pour gin into a glass, and then I glance at the bottle of vermouth that stands in the farthest corner of my study..."


Ingredients:

  • Dry vermouth
  • 60 ml of chilled gin
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

    Step 1
  • Pour a tiny amount of dry vermouth into a chilled martini glass. Swirl the glass to coat the sides. Pour out any excess.
  • Step 2
  • Pour gin into a shaker filled with ice, stir and strain into a glass.
