Classic Martini cocktail

How to make a classic Martini cocktail
Kitchen:American,
Time: 5 min.
Complexity: easily
Quantity: 1 cocktail

Since its invention in the 1870s, this American cocktail has undergone numerous changes. The classic martini is considered to be made with gin and vermouth, garnished with an olive. Interestingly, the "Nick and Nora" glass used to serve this drink is named after the main characters of the 1934 comedy detective film "The Thin Man."

Ingredients:

  • 1 olive, plus an additional 15 ml of olive brine
  • 1 dash (about 1/5 tsp) dry vermouth
  • 90 ml gin, such as Plymouth, chilled
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

We recommend

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Shake the olive brine with plenty of ice in a shaker. Pour about 1/5 teaspoon of vermouth into a chilled Nick & Nora glass and swirl it around the inside of the glass to add flavor and aroma. Strain the olive brine into the glass.
  • Step 2
  • Add chilled gin of your choice. Garnish with an olive on a clear skewer and serve.
