How to cook crabs properly

Cooking crabs is quite simple. Follow the steps below.

1. Buy crabs.

To do this, you need to go to a market or store. Live crabs are, of course, preferable. Pacific red crabs and Dungeness crabs, which are found in California, are considered the best for boiling.

The number of crabs you buy should depend on the number of guests you expect. You'll need 6 blue crabs per person, 8 red crabs, and 2-3 Dungeness crabs per person. However, the number of crabs you buy may also depend on the preferences of the diners.

2. Take a saucepan.

It should be large. Fill it with water, add spices, and bring it to a boil. There's no need to add salt, as the crabs come from seawater and are already salty. If you're by the sea, you can cook the crabs in seawater as well. When the water boils, add the crabs. Try not to add too many. You need to leave room for the water.

3. Preparation.

Once you add the crabs, the water will stop boiling, so cover the pot with a lid. Once the water boils, remove the lid. Cook the crabs for 10-15 minutes. If the crabs float to the surface, let them cook for another 2-3 minutes and remove the pot from the heat.

4. Cooling.

Remove the cooked crabs from the pot. Now you can eat them hot or let them cool. If you don't plan on eating them all at once, you can freeze them or refrigerate them. However, they won't keep well in the refrigerator for more than a week.
