How to eat lobster properly

This article describes three simple steps that will help you easily remove lobster meat from the shell.

How to eat lobster properly

Lobsters - a rare dish even in fine dining restaurants. Most often, lobster meat is served in the shell, which makes things quite difficult for guests. Perhaps you've come to a restaurant with your significant other or are at a social event where crustaceans are served, and you're hesitant to try lobster because you can't imagine how to remove the edible meat from the shell. If you think it can't be done quickly and aesthetically, you're mistaken. You can eat lobster properly in three simple steps, especially since all establishments always provide special tools (tongs with serrated edges) with this dish.

Step one: remove the claws

Pick up the lobster (thankfully, it's polite to eat this crustacean with your hands) and, using quick movements, separate all the claws from the body. Then, take a pair of tongs and bite the crustacean's body roughly down the middle.

Step two - separate the tail

You can also remove the lobster tail by hand. It will easily detach from the body if you grasp the tail with two fingers and gently twist it counterclockwise. If the lobster is young and fresh, the shell will likely crack at this point. Use tongs to open it. If the shell doesn't crack when you remove the tail, crack it with the same tongs and then open it.

Step three: Remove the meat

Place the lobster belly-side up on a plate. Remove the small legs from the body using your hands or tongs. Open the shell completely. If tongs are not available, use a knife or fork. If a two-pronged fork is provided, use it to remove all the entrails. Remove the meat when ready to eat.

At home, you can serve it crabs.
