Classic French onion soup can be made with just five ingredients. The key step is to sauté the onions over low heat for a long time, allowing them to slowly caramelize in butter and thyme. This can take over an hour. Then, pour the broth over the onions, and the soup is almost ready. For flavor, add a splash of cognac. Onion soup is usually served in a small pot, topped with crispy croutons and melted cheese.

1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.

1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
