If you're a fan of French onion soup, you'll definitely appreciate the flavor of this party dip. Its base is the same sautéed onion with spices. For a richer flavor, Rachael Ray adds a bouillon cube when frying the onions, and when the onions are soft and beautifully caramelized, simply toss them with sour cream and cream cheese. Serve the dip with store-bought potato chips or healthier fresh carrot and zucchini chips, the recipe for which is also included below.

Recipes with similar ingredients: sour cream, cream cheese, onions, black pepper, thyme
Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Place a medium skillet over medium-high heat and add extra-virgin olive oil and butter. Melt the butter in the olive oil, then add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes. Add the bouillon cube with 1/2 cup of water and cook, stirring frequently, until the cube dissolves, coating the onion, 3 minutes. Season the onion with black pepper, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce. Remove from heat and transfer to a plate to cool quickly.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese with a silicone spatula. Stir in the onion mixture until evenly distributed, adding salt to taste if needed.
- Serve the dip at room temperature or refrigerate. Sprinkle with green onions before serving. Arrange potato and vegetable chips around the dip and serve.
Vegetable chipsSprinkle the vegetable slices with salt, wrap them in paper towels to remove excess moisture, and place them in a zip-lock bag. If serving at home, sprinkle the vegetables with salt, spread them out in a single layer, let them sit for 5 minutes, and then pat dry.
