To create a spicy, onion-and-garlic-flavored dip, Alton Brown sticks to his favorite combination of sour cream and onion in this mayo-based dipping sauce.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1.5 cups sour cream
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1.5 cups diced onion
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
  • 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp coarse salt

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, add onion and salt. Saute the onion until caramelized, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Combine the remaining ingredients and then add the cooled onion. Refrigerate and stir again before serving.
