A huge piece of baked ham is a spectacular and delicious treat for a big family celebration. While you can find pre-marinated and pre-baked ham in stores, this recipe is for a fresh cut. The pork leg is rubbed with soy sauce and sprinkled with a simple homemade seasoning of salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Be generous with the seasoning and don't worry about over-salting the meat, but you won't need all the homemade seasoning in this recipe. Any leftovers can be stored in a sealed container and used in other dishes. Bake the ham for 20 minutes per pound, and it will turn out very juicy on the inside and golden brown on the outside.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

  • 1 whole fresh ham (not cured), 4.5 - 6.5 kg.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C.
  2. Rub the ham with soy sauce, then thoroughly rub with homemade seasoning, covering the entire surface. Sprinkle the ham with additional seasoning to completely coat it (don't worry about over-salting).

    Homemade seasoning:

Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months. You'll get 1.5 cups of seasoning.

  3. Place in the oven, uncovered, and bake for 18-20 minutes per pound of ham, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) on a meat thermometer. When the ham is done, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
