A classic American Thanksgiving side dish, typically made with canned mushroom soup and green beans, can easily be made at home using fresh ingredients. It's as easy as opening a can. While this recipe takes a little more time, you'll have a wonderful homemade dish that's both delicious and healthy. The only thing you'll need to consider is some store-bought fried onions to top the baked casserole.
The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:
- 700 g green beans, ends trimmed
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 2 shallots, chopped
- 220 g of mushrooms, sliced
- 3 tbsp. flour
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup low-fat cream (10%)
- 1 can of fried onions

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to 190°C.
- Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil, add 2 tablespoons of salt, and blanch the green beans for 5 minutes. Immediately transfer the beans to a bowl of ice water, then drain and pat dry.
- In a large cast-iron skillet or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the shallots and cook until golden brown. Add the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, and cook until softened. Add the flour and stir to coat the mushrooms and shallots.
- Add the chicken broth, stirring vigorously to avoid lumps. Stir in the cream. Bring the sauce to a boil and simmer for 3 minutes. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed. Add the green beans.
- Then pour the mixture into a 22x32 cm baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with fried onions. Serve.
