Delight your guests with the incredible combination of crisp filo pastry, chewy, smooth Gruyere, and sweet-tart cranberries. This appetizer looks elegant and sophisticated, yet it's quite simple and quick to prepare. This recipe uses unbaked filo pastry tartlets, which are available online or in major supermarkets.


Ingredients:

  • 48 frozen filo pastry tartlets
  • 1 package (280 g) frozen or fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 0.5 tsp orange zest + 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 110 g of cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 230°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • Combine the cranberries, sugar, orange zest, and juice in a small saucepan. Place over medium heat and simmer until the cranberries are soft and beginning to burst, 8-10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Step 3
  • In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and Gruyere with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until smooth.
  • Step 4
  • Place the phyllo tartlets on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of cranberry sauce into each tartlet. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheese mixture over the cranberry sauce. Bake until the tartlets are golden and crisp, and the cheese is melted and bubbly, 10-12 minutes. Sprinkle with chives before serving.
