Purple tomatoes may help prevent cancer.

British scientists have created a new variety of purple-fruited tomatoes. They claim that purple fruits can protect the body from cancer.
The crop was developed using unconventional methods. The new variety is a genetically engineered product. Its fruits have increased levels of anthocyanins, which can reduce inflammation and prevent tumor development.
Prototypes have already been produced in Canada. Following trials in the UK, the developers plan to commercialize the crop itself, as well as juice from its fruits.
