Although acai berries have gained popularity relatively recently, they are often used in smoothies in Brazil. Acai berries are purple berries, the fruit of a palm tree native to Central and South America. They are rich in antioxidants (anthocyanins) and omega-3 fatty acids. This recipe uses unsweetened frozen puree with a pleasant flavor enhanced by olive oil. Add traditional toppings for a fiber-rich breakfast.

Ingredients:
- 2 packages (110 g each) of unsweetened frozen acai berry puree
- 1 medium banana
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 3 tbsp. granola
- 2 tbsp. l. pomegranate seeds
- 1 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes

- Step 1
- Lightly crush the frozen acai berries by tapping the sealed bags on the counter or using a mallet. Blend the berries in a blender with 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup blueberries, and honey until the consistency of a thick smoothie—stop the blender as needed to stir and mash the mixture. Transfer to a deep bowl. Step 2
- Slice the remaining 1/2 banana. Arrange the banana, remaining 1/4 cup blueberries, granola, pomegranate seeds, and coconut flakes in neat rows or piles over the smoothie.
