They're filled with a mixture of fried bacon, lettuce, and stale bread in a mayonnaise dressing and baked in the oven. The result is an elegant appetizer that can also be served as an attractive side dish for meat.

Remove the guts from 4 tomatoes. Season with salt and black pepper and turn to drain. Fry 2 slices of bacon with 1 clove of garlic; chop, then mix with 0.5 cups of chopped lettuce, 0.5 cups of diced stale bread, and 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise; season with salt and pepper to taste. Fill the tomatoes with the filling, then brush with the rendered bacon fat. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes at 220°C.
