Chives (chives, spring onions)

This is a plant from the onion family, which consists of a bulb that gradually turns into a rounded white stem with dark green, awl-shaped feathers. It is grown to produce tender and very juicy leaves.
Translated from German, "schnitt" means a plant used for cutting the leaves; in Bulgaria it is called onion-skoroda, and in Ukraine and Siberia it is known as chives.
Chives are used in the preparation of meat and fish first courses, hot sauces, and pies. In their fresh form, they are used as a mildly spicy addition to salads, soups, egg dishes, vegetable side dishes, and also in the preparation of home-canned food.
The crushed leaves can be stored dried, salted, or frozen.
