If you're planning a small sandwich party, bake a cake in the shape of a giant hot cheese sandwich for dessert. It looks just as delicious as a real sandwich and is just as easy to make, as it uses store-bought dry mixes for the sponge and filling. For the crust, you'll need a square pan so you can cut the "sandwich" into traditional triangles. After baking, the buttered crust is toasted in the oven until golden brown, and the melted cheese becomes orange-tinted vanilla pudding. It looks very authentic. Serve the Hot Cheese Sandwich Cake with strawberry-peach sauce.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:

  7. Blend the sauce with an immersion blender (or in a blender jar) until smooth. Pour into a bowl.
  8. Prepare the pudding

  9. Prepare the pudding according to package directions; tint it with yellow and red food coloring to resemble melted cheese.
  10. Use a knife to cut off the top of the sponge cake.

  11. Trim the top of the cake with a large serrated knife to make it even.
  12. Then cut lengthwise into 2 parts

  13. Cut the cake in half horizontally.
  14. Brush the top crust with melted butter.

  15. Preheat the oven to broil. Place the crust on a foil-lined baking sheet and brush the top with melted butter. Grill for 4 minutes.
  16. Toast the top layer in the oven under the grill. Spread the bottom layer with pudding.

  17. Cut the cake in half diagonally. Spread the pudding over the bottom triangles, spreading it almost to the edge.
  18. Cover the bottom cake with the top one.

  19. Top with the fried triangles, pressing gently to release the pudding. Serve with fruit sauce.
