The superb combination of tart apples and tangy cheddar makes this hot sandwich exquisite. You'll be delighted not only by the flavor but also by the contrasting textures as the gooey cheese meets the juicy apple and crispy bread.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Place two slices of bread on a cutting board or work surface. Top with two slices of cheese, apple slices, a third slice of cheese, and another slice of bread. Press down gently.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon butter over medium-low heat. Add the sandwiches and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is slightly melted, 3 to 5 minutes. Flip with a spatula and add the remaining 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet. Cook until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3 more minutes, adjusting the heat as needed to prevent the bread from burning before the cheese is melted.
