Flavorful hot cheese sandwiches are perfect for a filling snack. But when you need to feed a large crowd quickly, you can bake a giant sandwich and save time assembling individual sandwiches. Cut a loaf of bread in half, spread the outside with mayonnaise, and layer the insides with slices of three types of melting cheese—for example, cheddar, mozzarella, and American semi-hard cheese—and bake in the oven. Then, glue the sandwich together, with the cheese in the middle, and cut into slices. The sandwich turns out very crisp on the outside, and the cheese is deliciously gooey and delicious thanks to the blend of different types.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 whole loaf of white bread or brioche (about 0.6 kg)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 150 g of sliced cheddar
  • 150 g sliced Monterey Jack cheese
  • 150 g sliced semi-skimmed mozzarella

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Place 1 baking sheet on a rack set on the middle shelf of the oven and preheat the oven to 175°C.
  2. Trim 0.5 cm of crust from the top and bottom of the loaf of bread. Cut the loaf in half horizontally, keeping the crusts even. Cut a piece of parchment paper large enough to fit both halves of the loaf, and place the top and bottom halves on it, cut side up, so the bread crumb is visible.

  3. Remove 0.5 cm of crumb from the center of the loaf. Spread mayonnaise evenly over the crumb of each half, then flip them over so the mayonnaise side is facing down on the parchment paper.
  4. Evenly distribute slices of the three cheeses between the two halves of the bread. Using parchment paper, transfer the bread and cheese to a preheated baking sheet, using a spatula if necessary. Then remove and discard the parchment. Bake until golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 18 minutes. Remove from the oven and immediately press the two halves of the bread together, with the cheese in the center. Let rest for about 10 minutes. Slice and serve hot.
