Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian's hot sandwich is a luxurious combination of sweet fig jam and salty fried bacon, crunchy almonds, and velvety melting cheese. The sandwich is made with two types of cheese—Gruyère and Monterey Jack—and on sweet brioche instead of traditional bread.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 4 tbsp fig jam
  • 8 thick slices brioche
  • 4 tablespoons toasted sliced ​​almonds
  • 8 slices of fried bacon
  • 4 slices Gruyere
  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Heat a nonstick skillet or large frying pan over medium heat. Spread fig jam on four slices of bread. Top with almonds, then add two slices of bacon per sandwich and a slice of each cheese. Brush the outside of the sandwiches with butter, then season with salt.
  2. Grill the sandwiches on one side for 5 minutes, then flip, cover with a heatproof metal bowl, and grill until golden brown, cheese is melted, and heated through, about 5 more minutes.
