Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to 190°C.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, allspice, and salt. Mix well. Cut the butter and shortening into small pieces and add to the flour mixture. Using your hands, mix the butter and shortening into the flour until crumbly. Add the egg, buttermilk, dried berries, fruit, and nuts and mix until a dough forms. - Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until it forms a ball. Form the dough into a round loaf. Place the dough on a lightly greased baking sheet. Score the top with a sharp knife. Place the loaf in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown.
