Time: 5 min.
Complexity: easily
Quantity: 1 cocktail

Despite its name, this cocktail isn't an instant hit. It has a pleasant tropical fruit flavor, is easy to drink, and is considered a true highlight of any party. It gets its name from the elongated "Hurricane" glass, shaped like a kerosene lamp that never goes out during hurricanes, in which the drink was originally served. The cocktail contains rum, passion fruit puree, orange and lemon juice, simple syrup, and a splash of grenadine for a brighter, more dramatic color.

Recipe:

Combine 45 ml each of white and dark rum, passion fruit puree (defrost if frozen), 30 ml each of orange juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup, and 15 ml of grenadine in a shaker with ice; shake well. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.

Note

To make simple sugar syrup, heat equal parts granulated sugar and water in a saucepan until the sugar is completely dissolved; let cool. Demerara sugar or honey can be used in place of regular granulated sugar.
