How to Make Cinnamon Rolls
Go back Print version

Time: 1 hour 50 min.
Complexity: easily
Quantity: 12 - 15 buns

These fragrant, soft buns will be the highlight of any family celebration. Baked from yeast dough, rolled into a rectangle, buttered, sprinkled with a sugar-cinnamon mixture, and rolled into a roll. This is the basic filling for traditional cinnamon rolls, but you can add raisins, walnuts, pecans, or anything you like! To bake, place the buns in a buttered and sugar-dusted pan—this will ensure a light caramelized crust on the bottom. Drizzle the finished buns with glaze while still warm, cool slightly, and enjoy!

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the milk, sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add the yeast.

  3. Stir in the remaining flour and knead into a non-stick dough. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-10 minutes. Then place it in a well-oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.
  4. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down. Roll it out on a floured surface into a 37 x 22 cm rectangle. Brush the dough with melted butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the dough. Sprinkle with walnuts, pecans, or raisins, if desired. Roll the dough up along the long edge and seal the edge. Slice into 12-15 rolls.
  5. Grease a baking pan with butter and sprinkle the bottom with sugar. Place the cinnamon rolls close together in the pan and let rise for about 45 minutes, until doubled in size. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Meanwhile, combine the butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the glaze reaches the desired consistency. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns.
