Traditionally, American monkey bread is baked from numerous balls of yeast dough. But you can make things easier by using store-bought flaky bun dough. They come pre-formed in packages, so all you have to do is cut them into several pieces, roll them in butter and a cinnamon-sugar mixture, place them in a pan, and bake. The flaky buns rise just like yeast dough, creating cavities that will allow the caramelized butter to flow into them during baking. The entire bread will be covered in a delicious sugar crust. Serve the monkey bread with tea, tear off pieces with your fingers, and enjoy.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 165 g butter, melted
  • 2 packages of 450 g chilled dough for layered biscuits (chopped dough)
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • Special equipment: Round non-stick cake tin with a hole in the middle, diameter 25 cm.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a medium bowl. Lightly grease the pan with the butter to coat it thinly.
  2. Cut the buns into 4 pieces. In a large bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon.

  3. Working in batches, dip the dough into the melted butter, roll it in the sugar mixture to lightly coat, and place it in the prepared cake pan.
  4. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until golden brown, another 10-15 minutes. Loosen the sides of the bread with a knife or spatula. Carefully invert the pan onto a plate, remove it, and serve hot.
