There are many recipes for the refreshing drink horchata, and this Mexican version is one of the simplest. Soak oats and cinnamon in water, then blend everything together. Add a sweetener, such as sugar or agave syrup, if desired. Drink horchata chilled.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cinnamon stick (10 cm), broken into small pieces
  • 4 tbsp of water
  • Sugar or agave nectar, as needed
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

    Step 1
  • In a large pitcher, cover the oats and cinnamon with water and soak for at least 30 minutes.
  • Step 2
  • Blend everything in a blender. Strain and sweeten with sugar or agave syrup to taste. Serve well chilled or over ice.
