French toast is a quick and easy way to transform ordinary white bread into a true dessert using ingredients you already have on hand. Stale bread works well here, as dry bread will hold the soak even better and won't fall apart. For the soak, you'll need eggs, milk, sugar, and sweet baking spices. Dip the bread slices in the mixture and toast in butter. Drizzle the toast with syrup and serve for breakfast or dessert.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar and set aside.
- In a 25cm or 30cm frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk together the cinnamon mixture, eggs, milk, and vanilla and pour into a shallow dish, such as a pie plate.
