- Step 1
- In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with 1/4 cup sugar, milk, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract. Place the croissants in a single layer in an 8-inch square ovenproof dish. Step 2
- Pour the egg mixture over the croissants, then place a plate on top and press down so they're submerged. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour. Step 3
- Preheat oven to 175°C. Step 4
- Remove the croissants from the plate, cover the baking dish with foil, and bake until set, about 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and set the oven to broil. Step 5
- Uncover the pan, sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, and broil until the sugar begins to bubble in spots, about 2 minutes. Step 6
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the jam with 1/4 cup water and microwave for 1-2 minutes. Serve with French toast.
