Treat yourself to a French breakfast that's so easy to make and doesn't require any typical French ingredients. Delicate French toast is made from slices of white bread fried in a sweet egg batter. You've probably made this type of toast without sugar, never realizing you were indulging in exquisite French cuisine. Add cinnamon, vanilla, and sugar to the egg, and you're guaranteed a delicious dessert.

For French toast, it's recommended to use stale bread slices at least 1.5 cm thick to prevent them from falling apart. The flavor also depends on the time the bread soaks in the batter. The longer the bread soaks in the batter, the more tender and melty it will be.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 8 slices toast bread or other white bread, cut 1.5 – 2 cm thick.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C. Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet (it's okay if they overlap slightly). Toast the bread in the oven for 6 minutes, then flip it over and bake for another 6 minutes. Remove and let cool.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt.

  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip 2 slices of bread into the egg mixture. Let the bread soak for 30-60 seconds, checking every 15 seconds (the slices should be soaked and heavy, but not lose their shape or break).

Melt 1 tablespoon (15 g) of butter in a frying pan and place 2 slices of bread in it. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the inside is cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed. Don't let the bread brown too quickly or too slowly.
  4. Reduce oven temperature to 95°C.

Place the finished toasts on a rack placed on a baking sheet in the oven. Keep warm until serving.
  5. Serve French toast dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
