These traditional cookies from the American South are perfect for everyday teatime. They're moderately sweet and made with simple ingredients, yet they're a favorite and quickly snapped up. For the dough, you'll need flour, butter, sugar, eggs, sour milk, and baking powder. Vanilla extract will infuse the cookies with a wonderful aroma. You can also add other natural flavors to suit your taste. The dough will be sticky and soft, but letting it rest for about an hour will make it easier to work with. Cut out circles or other shapes from the dough and bake cookies that both kids and adults will love.
