Food Network proves that jar of marinara sauce from your kitchen cabinet is good for more than just spaghetti.

1. Rice in Spanish. Cook 1 cup of rice according to package directions, substituting 1 cup of tomato sauce for 1 cup of water. Stir in capers, Spanish olives, and chopped green onions.
2. Potato casserole. In a casserole dish, combine mashed potatoes, a little tomato sauce, and grated Parmesan; top with more sauce and cheese and bake for 30 minutes at 220°C.
3. Baked brie. Trim the top rind from a wheel of brie cheese. Brush lightly with tomato sauce and coat with seasoned breadcrumbs; bake for 15 minutes at 200°C. Sprinkle with fresh herbs.
4. Mussels in tomato sauce. In a deep skillet, sauté sliced garlic in olive oil. Add a pinch of saffron, 1/2 cup white wine, 2 cups tomato sauce, and 3 pounds (1.4 kg) mussels; cover and cook for 5 minutes, until the mussels open.
5. Spicy dip for chips. In a bowl, combine equal parts sour cream and tomato sauce; stir in grated Parmesan, ground pepper and oregano.
6. Quick ratatouille. Sauté chopped bell peppers, zucchini, onion, eggplant, and garlic in olive oil. Add 2 parts tomato sauce, 1 part water, and some fresh basil; simmer until the vegetables are tender.
7. Cocktail sauce. Combine tomato sauce with horseradish and hot sauce to taste; serve with shrimp.

9. Compound oil. In a food processor, puree 110 g of butter and 1/4 cup of tomato sauce; stir in the chopped parsley. Using plastic wrap, roll into a log shape and refrigerate.
10. Olive tapenade. Combine 1 cup tomato sauce, 1/2 cup chopped Kalamata olives, 1/2 cup chopped roasted pepper, a generous spoonful of capers, and a sprinkling of parsley; serve with crackers.
11. African stew. Sauté chopped onion, garlic, and ginger with curry powder; add 1 can tomato sauce, 2 cups water, 1 can white beans, and diced sweet potato; cook until tender. Stir in 1/4 cup peanut butter.

12. Tomato cream soup. Sauté chopped fresh herbs in butter; add 1 can tomato sauce, 2 cups water, 1/2 cup heavy cream, and a pinch of nutmeg; simmer for 5 minutes.
13. Stuffed mushrooms. Combine bread crumbs, sliced mushroom stems, and grated Parmesan with a little tomato sauce; stuff the mushroom caps with the mixture, drizzle with olive oil, and bake for 30 minutes at 200°C.
14. Buffalo wings. Lightly brush chicken wings with equal parts tomato and hot sauce; bake for 40 minutes at 220°C.
15. Clam chowder. Sauté diced celery and onion in butter with thyme and bay leaf. Add 1 diced potato, 2 cups tomato sauce, 1 bottle clam juice, and 1 cup water; simmer for 15 minutes.
16. Tomato croutons. Toss 2 cups cubed stale bread with 1/2 cup tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan and 2 tablespoons olive oil; bake at 400°F (200°C) until golden, 10 minutes.
17. BBQ brisket. Brown 4 pounds (1.8 kg) of brisket in butter with chopped onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Add 1 can of tomato sauce, a pitcher of water, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar; cover and simmer for 3 hours.

18. "Eggs in Purgatory" In a small skillet, bring 1 cup tomato sauce to a gentle simmer. Crack 2 eggs into it, cover, and cook until the whites are set; sprinkle with pepper and grated Parmesan.
19. Pasta with tuna. Simmer the tomato sauce with halved olives, capers and a can of drained Italian tuna; stir into the pasta.
20. "BLT". Fry chopped bacon in a deep frying pan; add tomato sauce and escarole, cook until the lettuce is tender.

21. Stuffed baked potatoes. Make a deep slit in a baked potato, fill with tomato sauce, sliced pepperoni and shredded mozzarella; bake at 400°F (200°C) until the cheese is melted.

26. Sweet and spicy sausages. Bring 4 cups thinly sliced onion, 1 cup tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar to a boil; cover and simmer for 40 minutes. Serve with hot dogs.
27. Penne in vodka sauce. Simmer 1/2 cup heavy cream and 3 cups tomato sauce in a skillet for 3-5 minutes; remove from heat and stir in 2-3 tablespoons vodka. Stir in cooked penne pasta.
28. Spicy marinade. Combine 1 cup tomato sauce, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, and 1/4 cup olive oil; add crushed garlic cloves, salt, and pepper. Use as a marinade for 1 pound of chicken or pork.
29. Tomato scones. Brush the scones with tomato sauce, top with grated cheddar and sliced green onions, and bake according to package directions.
30. Chicken curry. Brown the chicken in olive oil with chili powder, chopped onion and bell pepper; add the tomato sauce and simmer until the chicken is cooked through.

31. Panini with Taleggio cheese. Spread tomato sauce on 2 slices of thick-crust bread, sandwich Taleggio cheese between them, and cook in a buttered pan or panini press.
32. Simple Parmigiana. Place alternate slices of garlic bread and mozzarella in a baking dish; top with tomato sauce and bake at 190°C until golden brown, 20 minutes.
33. Polenta with tomatoes. Stir a large spoonful of sun-dried tomato tapenade into a small amount of tomato sauce; warm through and spoon onto the cooked soft polenta.
34. Italian quesadilla. Spread tomato sauce on a tortilla; top with grated mozzarella, sliced mushrooms, and shredded chicken; fold in half and fry in a pan until golden brown.
35. Chilaquiles. Cook 4 cups tortilla chips in tomato sauce until slightly softened; stir in chopped cilantro and top with grated cheddar and sour cream.
36. Creole stew. Saute chopped onion, bell peppers, and celery; add Creole seasoning, sliced smoked turkey sausage, tomato sauce, and a splash of broth; serve with rice.

42. "Bloody Mary". Combine 180 ml vodka, 1 cup tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, 6 tablespoons lime juice, and 1 tablespoon horseradish in a pitcher; season with celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce.
43. Spicy Okra. Simmer fresh or frozen okra with canned chickpeas in tomato sauce; season with cumin, mustard seeds, and coriander.
44. Polenta appetizer. Cut the polenta (from the tube) into rounds. Grill until heated through; brush lightly with tomato sauce and sprinkle with grated fontina cheese. Grill until the cheese is melted.
45. Tomato soup with fennel. Dilute the tomato sauce with water; add the fennel slices, vegetable juice, a splash of Pernod aperitif and cook at a low simmer.
46. Pasta with chickpeas. Simmer tomato sauce with chopped celery, anchovies and chickpeas; serve with penne pasta.
47. Red pepper coulis. Puree the roasted red peppers from the jar until smooth; stir into the tomato sauce and serve with steamed fish.
48. Sloppy Joe's Burgers. Brown the Italian sausage, sliced onion, and bell pepper; stir in the tomato sauce and reheat; spoon onto the buns.
49. Vinaigrette dressing. Whisk together 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, 1/2 cup olive oil, some torn basil, salt, and pepper. Whisk in a spoonful of tomato sauce; drizzle the dressing over the arugula.
50. Eggplant rolls. Grill or broil thinly sliced eggplant until tender. Spread with tomato sauce and ricotta; roll and secure with toothpicks.
