The exquisite dessert bananas foster was created by renowned chef Paul Blonger in 1951 at the restaurant Brenan and named after a friend of the owner. The restaurant was located in New Orleans, which is essentially the main port through which bananas enter the United States, so the choice of the main product was quite obvious. To this day, the dessert is a frequent guest on the menus of upscale restaurants. So why not treat yourself and your guests to this simple, sophisticated dessert of flambéed bananas?

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 bananas, unripe, cut in half lengthwise
  • 3 tbsp (45 g) butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons banana liqueur

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Place the butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the bananas. Fry for 1 minute on each side and remove from the pan.
  2. In the same saucepan, add sugar and pour in the banana liqueur, dark rum, and coffee liqueur. Let it simmer gently for 2 minutes. Tilt the saucepan on its side to ignite the alcohol vapors. When the flames die down, add orange juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until the desired consistency is reached.

  3. Return the bananas to the saucepan and drizzle with the sauce for 1 minute to coat them. To serve, spoon 1 banana half into 4 long bowls with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Use a spoon to evenly distribute the sauce between the bowls.
