Caramelized Vidalia Onion Dip
Votes: 1

Time: 1 hour.
Vidalia onions have a uniquely mild, sweet flavor and are perfect for appetizers, both raw and roasted. Sauté them for half an hour until the sugars in the onions caramelize, infusing the flavor. Then, toss the caramelized onions into a herb-infused cream cheese mixture to create a delicious dipping sauce that can be served as an appetizer, surrounded by various vegetables for dipping. Make this dip ahead of time, and when guests arrive, serve it to keep them entertained while the main course is being prepared.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until it begins to darken, 5-7 minutes. Stir in 1/4 cup water and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Reduce heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is golden brown, 30-35 minutes. If the pan looks too dry, add another 1 tablespoon of water. Let cool completely.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, onion powder, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in the caramelized onions and green onions. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Sprinkle with additional green onions and serve with vegetables for dipping.
Exit: 2.5 tbsp.
