American chop suey is a popular home-style dish from the New England region. It's unrelated to the Chinese stew of the same name and more closely resembles an Italian pasta dish. American chop suey is a thick stew of ground beef simmered with onions, garlic, aromatic herbs, bell peppers, and tomatoes in a tomato sauce, then mixed with cooked pasta. It's most often prepared with cone-shaped pasta, which absorbs a lot of the delicious sauce. The dish is very filling and nutritious, perfect for feeding a large family.

Cook until the meat is darkened, about 7 minutes. Sprinkle the meat with herbs and black pepper, season with salt to taste, and mix well.
  2. Add the canned tomatoes with their juices, tomato sauce, paste, and juice. Add sugar to taste. Simmer over low heat while you cook the pasta.

  3. Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook, stirring occasionally, until al dente. Drain. Toss the pasta with the chop suey. Serve hot.
