The simplest potato salad is a delicious combination of just four ingredients: potatoes, eggs, mayonnaise, and pickles. Everything is in place, and nothing is extra! Serve the potato salad chilled, sprinkled with black pepper if desired.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Place the potatoes in a medium saucepan. Add salt and enough water to cover the potatoes. Cook until tender when pricking with a knife but still holding their shape (do not overcook), about 30 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes, transfer them to a large bowl, and let them cool completely. Add the hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, and relish and mix gently to distribute the ingredients evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
