A basic vegetable salad includes vegetables that are often on hand or readily available on supermarket shelves: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and carrots. All these ingredients combine beautifully to create a crunchy, vitamin-rich salad that's perfect for any meal. This salad pairs best with a vinaigrette dressing of red wine vinegar, olive oil, and a pinch of sugar. You can add other vegetables to this basic salad, such as bell peppers or radishes, and complement it with protein: canned beans, chicken pieces, or shrimp.
