Tostones are a popular Latin American appetizer consisting of fried flattened plantains. They are served both as a side dish and as a snack. This recipe calls for a piquant garlic sauce with red pepper and cumin to accompany fried tostones. Dip and enjoy!



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 450 g defrosted tostones (fried plantains)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 green onion
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a food processor, puree 2 cloves garlic with 1/4 cup olive oil. Add 1 chopped green onion, 2 teaspoons white vinegar, and 1/4 teaspoon each cumin seeds and red pepper flakes; pulse.
  2. Working in batches, fry 450 g of defrosted tostones in vegetable oil until golden brown and crispy, 2-4 minutes per side.

  3. Transfer to paper towels to remove excess oil and season with salt. Serve with garlic sauce.
