Recipe for making the Norwegian festive alcoholic drink "Gløg".



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 glasses of red wine
  • 2 glasses of orange juice
  • 10 grams of honey
  • 5 grams each of dried thyme, peppermint, lemon balm, oregano, and lemon balm
  • 10 milliliters of vodka or cognac
  • 4 anise stars
  • Cinnamon stick
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 6 carnation buds
  • 5 grams of crushed ginger
  • Zest of 1/4 orange (removed in strips)
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • Sugar - to taste

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Pour two cups of boiling water over the herbs and ginger, bring to a boil, cover, and let steep for two hours. Strain.
  2. Place cinnamon stick, anise, cardamom, cloves, orange zest and nutmeg in a cheesecloth bag.

  3. Pour the wine, orange juice, and herbal infusion into a saucepan, add the spice bag, and bring to a boil. Do not let it boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 40 minutes, without letting it boil. Before serving, add honey and sugar to taste.
