Just in time for the holidays, Ina Garten updates this popular winter classic, using chopped white chocolate instead of regular cocoa. A splash of orange liqueur brightens the flavor, while a sprinkling of natural vanilla seeds adds an elegant touch.


Ingredients:

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 4 tbsp. cream 10%
  • 450 g white chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Seeds of 2 vanilla pods
  • 1/4–1/3 cup orange liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Combine the milk and cream in a saucepan and heat over medium heat until just barely simmering. Remove from heat and stir in the white chocolate.
  • Step 2
  • When the chocolate has melted, add vanilla extract, vanilla seeds, and 1/4–1/3 cup orange liqueur, to taste. Stir vigorously. Reheat slightly and serve.
