The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

Dessert

  • 3/4 cup premium wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Fine salt
  • 110 g chopped dark or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 3 tbsp (45 g) unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing the waffle iron
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large beaten eggs
  • Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, liqueur, caramel sauce, sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry in liqueur for flavor

Equipment

  • Waffle iron (best for Belgian waffles)

We recommend

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat a waffle iron to medium-high heat. Preheat the oven to 90°C (to keep the waffles warm). Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt into a small bowl and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine half the chocolate and butter and melt, stirring, over medium heat until smooth, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the sugar and eggs. Pour in the flour mixture and remaining chocolate and mix well. Add 2 tbsp. liqueur, if desired.

  3. Lightly grease the bottom and top of a waffle iron with butter. Fill the waffle iron three-quarters full (the surface should be free of batter). Carefully close the lid and bake until the waffles are set and crispy around the edges, 4-6 minutes. While you bake the remaining waffles, keep the finished waffles warm in a preheated oven at 195°F (90°C) or wrap them in foil on a plate.
  4. If desired, top each waffle with ice cream, whipped cream, caramel sauce, sprinkles, and cherries in liqueur.

Culinary advice: The waffles can be frozen in plastic freezer bags for up to 1 month. Reheat in a mini oven at 150°C until heated through and crispy.
