Hawaiian Sweet Bread

Despite its name, this Hawaiian bread has a slightly sweet flavor and goes perfectly with any dish. This soft and fluffy bread is best eaten the same day it's baked, but it also makes delicious French toast or bread pudding the next day. The dough is quite simple to make. Its basic ingredients are milk, flour, sugar, eggs, yeast, and butter. For a light, slightly spicy flavor, add lemon zest and a touch of nutmeg, which pairs beautifully with the buttery flavor of the bread.

1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:
- 0.5 cups of warm milk
- 3.5 tsp dry yeast
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened condensed milk or low-fat cream
- 5 tbsp (75 g) butter
- A large pinch of nutmeg
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tsp. grated lemon zest
- 4 cups of bread flour
- 4 eggs, lightly beaten + 1 beaten egg for brushing the dough
- 1 teaspoon of salt

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Mix milk, yeast, and 0.5 teaspoon of sugar. Let stand until the mixture foams.
- Heat the evaporated milk in a saucepan. Add the butter, nutmeg, sugar, and lemon zest. Stir until the butter melts.
- Place the flour in a large bowl. Add the eggs, yeast mixture, and salt. Add enough of the milk mixture to form a soft dough. Knead for 15 minutes.
- Let the dough rise until it doubles in size. Then punch it down and let it rise again.
- Preheat oven to 160°C. Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the surface of the loaf with the mixture.
- Bake in a preheated oven for about 50 minutes.
