A refreshing Italian dessert, granita is the perfect alternative to ice cream, and it's easy to make at home. It requires just a few ingredients—fruit and sugar—and doesn't require an ice cream maker. The fruit mixture is frozen in a wide pan and periodically scraped with a fork as it hardens to create a fluffy, snow-like consistency. Make this refreshing watermelon granita with raspberries and lime juice and serve it as an after-dinner dessert or as a mid-day snack.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 cups of raspberries

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine raspberries, sugar, and 1/4 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the raspberries are completely mashed, about 6 minutes.
  2. Strain the raspberry mixture through a fine sieve into a blender; let cool completely. Add the watermelon and lime juice and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into an 8-inch square stainless steel or glass baking dish.

  3. Freeze until ice crystals begin to form around the edges, about 45 minutes.
  4. Then, using a fork, scrape the crystals toward the center of the pan and continue freezing, scraping every 30 minutes, until the granita is set, about 4 hours.
