How to freeze apples for the winter

To preserve our apples for a long time, we'll freeze them. How can you tell if an apple is suitable for freezing? Peel it and leave it on a shelf in the refrigerator. Cut each apple quarter into 3-4 slices. Place the slices in a saucepan with the zest and lemon juice. Use a spoon to thoroughly mix the slices with the juice and zest. This will prevent the apples from browning.
Now you need to add the sugar. You can do this by eye, but on average, you'll need 2/3 cup of sugar for every 3 cups of apple slices. Place the sugar in a saucepan with the lemon juice, zest, and apples, and mix well. You'll get a delicious mixture. Don't eat too much of it, so you can save at least some of the apple slices for later.
Fill the pan to the top, alternating apples and sugar. Then, take a plastic bag and place 3 cups of apples with sugar, zest, and lemon juice. You can, of course, add more, but small portions are more convenient and preferable. Attach a piece of paper to the bag and write the apple variety and the date they were prepared.
Squeeze out any excess air and tie the bag shut. Use your fingers to flatten the apples into the bag as much as possible.
Make room in the freezer for the apples. Once frozen, you can move them to another spot in the freezer. Bags should be moved carefully, not thrown around. If you throw the bags in the freezer first, they may freeze in an irregular shape, making them difficult to store permanently.
Frozen apples in bags can easily be stored for about a year.
