Quick pickled apples with onions

How to Make Quick Pickled Apples with Onions
Time: 30 min.
Complexity: easily
Servings: 4

Apples marinated with onions may seem like an odd combination, but when you try this appetizer with meat, especially pork, you'll realize how harmoniously all the flavors blend. Green apples are thinly sliced, mixed with red onion rings and dill, and then marinated in a hot apple cider vinegar marinade with sugar and spices. While you prepare the main dish, the apples will have time to marinate and infuse their tart flavor. Use different apple varieties to enjoy new taste sensations. A great way to incorporate this fruit from your garden into your everyday menu.

Ingredients:

  • 2 green apples
  • Half a lemon
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped dill
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • About 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 and 1/4 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 4 fresh bay leaves
  • 0.5 tsp black peppercorns
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.

1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Quarter the apples, then core and thinly slice each slice. Place them in a medium bowl, drizzle with a little lemon juice, and add the onion and dill.
  • Step 2
  • In a small saucepan, heat the vinegar, bay leaf, peppercorns, salt, and sugar over medium heat. Stir and heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Pour the marinade over the apples and let sit for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
